Danielle has always been devoted to enhancing athletics and recreation for the children of Glen Cove. In addition to her countless hours as a volunteer coach, she has helped secure donations of more than $15,000 to add new scoreboards at City Stadium, along with the replacement of the stadium's batting cages, which had fallen into disrepair.
Danielle also advocated successfully to allocate funds from the city capital borrowing plan to purchase new bleachers for the baseball/softball fields and fix the retaining wall at Campi fields. Danielle is acutely aware of how important it is to keep our children engaged in positive ways.
This year, Danielle also secured $5000 in funding to purchase trees that were planted along side the baseball fields next to the animal shelter. The idea was to create a natural buffer between the animals and the activities going on in the fields so that everyone, animals and people alike could enjoy the outside.
Danielle also worked alongside the Recreation Commission to help raise private funds for additional repairs at fields.
As an active member of the Downtown B.I.D., this year Danielle worked with the BID and the GC High School to bring student artwork to the Downtown area further connecting the youth with the businesses in a way that the whole community can benefit. Overall, Danielle has worked hard to make sure we continue to give our residents the events the love like Downtown Sounds each year, as well as the Halloween Parades, the Downtown Tree Lighting and other holiday events enjoyed by the community.
During this term, Danielle was able to secure funding for the flags to honor local veterans in Morgans park thus connecting our past and the present into something the whole community can enjoy. This program not only honors our Veterans in a beautiful way, but also connects today's youth and the rest of the community with our Glen Cove Veterans.
Additionally, Danielle continues to advocate for the Veterans of Glen Cove. She has personally secured over $35,000 in private funding to help rebuild the VFW, which was damaged in a fire.
Danielle recognizes that part of what makes Glen Cove so special is that you have the youth and also the seniors as well as everyone in between to create a diverse and enriching community.
So when the senior center director and Phyllis Burnett reached out to Danielle for help, she didn't hesitate. They were looking for safe ways to transport the seniors to medical appointments. Danielle was able to work with The Glen Cove Police Department and the City Controller to secure a vehicle for the Senior Center's use. The Medical Transport vehicle is up and running and getting a lot of use.
Danielle has been working tirelessly behind the scenes with Assemblyman Chuck Lavine and the LIRR to help improve the train service from the Oyster Bay line. Thus far, the LIRR has eliminated Mineola from some of our schedules to save a few minutes and added a connecting train at Jamaica that is essentially for our riders to reduce over crowding. More changes are expected.
As the president of the Glen Cove Education Foundation (GCEF), Danielle has been the driving force behind the rebirth of this non-profit. The GCEF works to provide support and funding towards enriching programs within the Glen Cove City School District. Thanks to her extensive planning, foresight, vision and love of Glen Cove, more than $300,000 has been raised for the school district.
This year, GCEF was delighted to donate money or the new electronic sign with the stone frame for the high school entrance that can be seen on your way into the high school.
Danielle facilitated donations, totaling over $30,000, to multiple Glen Cove food pantries during the height of the COVID pandemic. She has also been a hands on participant in helping food insecure families right here in the Glen Cove community, by giving of her time regularly—packing and distributing boxes to families in need for The Porch Pantry.
